The Production Pipeline: An Overview of Particle Storm

Particle Storm's interface was designed with smooth workflow in mind. That means an animator can create, modify, and delete parameters without having to deal with remembering a setting or having to look around the interface to find a parameter. The "production pipeline" is illustrated in the following diagram.

Create Project: Set up all the project parameters such as simulation time, interface preferences, and sampling rates.

Create Particles: Define groups of particles and how many particles there are. Specify what kind of particles are to be used (polygons, sub-objects, strands, etc). Creating particles involves animating particles, which in turn involves using controllers like Wind and Gravity, as well as having the particles interact with other elements in the scene.

Record Particles: The animator must record the particles. Recording particles is analogous to recording something on tape. After the recording session is stopped, we have a .psm file, which contains all particle animation and shading data.

Import Particles into Layout: The animator must use the Particle Storm Displacement Map or Item Motion plug-in to bring the physical particles into Layout. At this point the scene can be rendered and particles can be seen.
