Glow
Type:
Surface illumination model.
Description:
Can be used to create glowing objects without post processing.
Overridden Controls:
None
Parameters Changed:
· Surface Transparency
· Surface Color

Notes:
· Set 'Edge Transparency' to 'Transparent'.
· Apply to a copy of the object which is slightly bigger than the original, maintaining the same position. In some cases it may be better to cut the copy of the object into two halves and apply the glow to the back half, with "Double Sided" turned on. This technique was used for creating the glowing moon in the sample picture.
· This shader works by increasing the transparency of the object as the angle between the normal and the viewing vector start to increase.
· Because the glowing is actually an object within the scene (as opposed to a post processing effect as implemented in LightWave) this shader can be used in situations where glowing objects need to cast shadows. It is also quicker to render.
